The U.S. House of Representatives just saw debate on
the Blumenauer-Tancredo Animal Fighting Amendment to
the Agriculture Appropriations bill. This amendment
would earmark $800,000 specifically for enforcement of
the new federal animal fighting law. This new law
bans interstate shipment and foreign export of any
fighting animals, whether they be dogs or gamefowl.

Debate was intense, with Rep. Blumenauer (D-OR),
Kucinich (D-OH) and Kaptur (D-OH) arguing in favor of
cracking down on cockfighting and dog fighting. Rep.
Henry Bonilla (R-TX) argued against the amendment,
while attacking the Humane Society of the U.S.

The recorded vote will be held this evening.
Everyone, please start calling your U.S.
Representative to ask that s/he support the
Blumenauer-Tancredo Animal Fighting Amendment. This
vote is big! Please call ASAP!

While you have your Representatives office on the
phone, please ask that s/he also support the
Ackerman-LaTourette Downed Animal Protection Amendment
which would take downed animals out of the human food

You can identify who your U.S. Representative is, and
how to contact him/her, at This
call is crucial as the vote may be close!!!

In closing, Reps. Blumenauer, Kucinich and Kaptur all
did us proud today. My hat is off to all three of
them for their excellent performance today, as well as
to Rep. Tancredo (R-CO) for his hard work in support
of this amendment.
