AR-News: (US) Police say 7 men cited in raid on cockfight

LAWRENCEBURG, Ky. — Kentucky State Police officers broke up a cockfighting
operation inside an Anderson County barn and cited seven men on
misdemeanor charges, an investigator said yesterday.

Five men were charged Saturday night with second-degree cruelty to animals
for allegedly being in the ring during the cockfights, said Sgt. Tracey L.
Thomas, the lead investigator.

Another man was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, and the property
owner, Clarence Smith, 62, was charged with promoting gambling and
permitting gambling, Thomas said.

The barn appeared to be built specifically for staging the bird fights,
Thomas said.
