[from Great Falls Tribune]

Ever since she began helping care for a truckload of abused collies eight
months ago, Great Falls resident Cindy James has felt a special tug for
one long-haired, sable-colored female, a dog so hungry for attention that
she would thrust her long nose out of a hole in her pen whenever James
happened her way.

James dubbed the dog Allie and her pen-mate Kate after the 1980s TV show
"Kate and Allie." Twice a week at first, and then daily after Camp Collie
moved to Great Falls in May, James cleaned pens, fed, watered and walked
the dogs, each time making a point to check in on her special friend.
...
One by one, similar happy endings are unfolding. Some 150 collies, two
shelties and 16 cats left behind by convicted animal abusers Jon and
Athena Harman of Alaska are beginning to leave Camp Collie for what
animal-rescue types refer to as "forever homes."

The dogs are going to people like Bill and Karin Hedglin of Cut Bank. They
adopted a male collie who arrived in Montana with three toes missing on a
hind paw, a victim of frostbite. (His new name: Klondike.)
