AR-News: (CA) Beef sales on the rise

After a decade of steady decline, the discovery of a case of mad cow
disease in fact has Albertans buying more beef, says an Alberta
Agriculture retail meat specialist.

Industry analysts said edgy consumers would stop buying beef after the
discovery of a case of BSE in an Alberta herd was announced May 20. And
that was expected to raise demand for pork and poultry, pushing up prices.

Instead, Canadians are buying more beef, says Arron Best, a meat
development officer with Alberta Agriculture.
