AR2003 Side Event (*)
The Changing Location of Animal Exploitation

Date: Saturday 28 June
Time: lunchtime
Place: grab your lunch and meet at the back door... we'll find a shady spot

Are we working to end the abuse of animals or simply to change the location
of their exploitation? Thanks to trade globalization, our efforts to
liberate or improve the lives of farmed and lab animals are easily undone.
Pattrice Jones explains why and, most importantly, how we must make
cooperative connections with activists in the developing countries into
which corporations are moving their exploitive operations. Jones coordinates
the Global Hunger Alliance, which brings together animal liberation,
envrionmental and social justice organizations. Last fall, she was the first
animal liberation activist invited to Pakistan to address an annual
conference on sustainable development in South Asia. Thanks in part to her
speech about the poultry industry, KFC has been the target of protests in
Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

(*) This side event is not part of the AR2003 conference. It will be the
first of a series of meetings intended to improve the conference by giving
voice to those who have been banned from speaking at or even attending the
conference. Other side events will be advertised on site. Planning meetings
will be held every night at 8 pm in the lobby. All are welcome to join our
efforts to make the conference even better.
