Fighting roosters destroyed after cops bust ring 

Authorities euthanized 16 trained fighting roosters
Sunday after busting a cockfighting ring in rural Fort
Lupton. 

The Weld County Sheriff's office responded to a report
of cockfighting about 10:30 a.m. in the 7500 block of
County Road 10. 

When authorities arrived, 50 people ran. 

Four male suspects remained at the scene. Felony
charges of animal fighting will be filed with the
district attorney's office, Weld County Undersheriff
Margie Martinez said. 

The investigation is ongoing. 

State law requires that animals sold for the sole
purpose of fighting must be destroyed, Martinez said.
