WHITEVILLE - A woman who pushed Columbus County Animal Control
officers to seize two malnourished horses has been charged with
stealing a dog.

Janice Melton, 43, of 4145 Green Sea Road in Horry County, S.C. -
just south of Tabor City - surrendered to Detective David Nobles at
the Columbus County Sheriff's Office on Monday. She was charged with
taking a dog that belonged to Ronald and Donna Beck, who live just
off of Miller Road east of Tabor City.
...
Several Humane Society members and animal rights supporters
questioned the charges against Melton and the lack of any charges
over the condition of the horses.
