(US) Police bust suburban cockfighting ring

June 2, 2003 (Markham, IL) —  A suspected cockfighting ring, that
generated as much as $10-thousand dollars a night, has been busted in
Markham in the south suburbs.

Investigators say the cockfights were held every weekend. Hundreds of hens
and roosters have been recovered.

Markham Police say it is the first cockfighting ring they have ever
busted. They say it drew in big crowds, many wagering big money.
