(US) Grassley Assails USDA on COOL

Sen. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) says USDA is "carrying water" for meat
packers by making country of origin labeling more complicated that it has
to be. Speaking in Shenandoah, Iowa, Grassley said agency officials are
making complying with COOL too complicated for farmers and ranchers.

Grassley also said he doesn't the U.S. needs a mandatory livestock
identification system, despite the recent mad-cow scare in Canada. Such a
system goes beyond what is needed, he said.
