(US) Owner admitted neglecting dogs, Shelby vet says

ANACONDA -- The morning of her arrest last Nov. 1, alleged collie abuser
Athena Lethcoe-Harman of Alaska admitted to a Shelby veterinarian that she
had been unable to take care of her animals for the previous three days,
the veterinarian testified under oath Thursday in the animal-cruelty
retrial of Lethcoe-Harman and her husband, Jon Harman.

Dr. Hardee Clark said Lethcoe-Harman acknowledged the lack of care after a
Toole County sheriff's deputy summoned Clark to the Port of Sweet Grass at
4 a.m. to inspect the couple's tractor-trailerful of collies and other

Clark's statement clearly shocked Lethcoe-Harman, who stared at him
open-mouthed from her seat at the defense table. Defense attorney Scott
Albers seemed stunned, too, and demanded to know why Clark had never
divulged that information during the Harmans' first trial in January.
