Help animals
Re: May 1, 2003 "Judge: Shelter cannot allow animal tests"

Allowing shelter animals to be used for medical experimentation has been
stopped dead in its tracks at the Camden County Animal Shelter and Adoption
Center. According to witnesses, healthy and adoptable dogs and cats suffered
and died because of it. The judge's order said no more testing and hopefully
it will be obeyed.

Camden County freeholders contract the group that runs the shelter and
allowed the testing in exchange for money in the first place. The group's
name is the Humane Society of Southern NJ, formerly the Camden County Humane
Society. Their president is Richard Perr, an attorney for Fineman and Bach of
Haddonfield, and he's been in charge ever since the place opened.

If Perr's group remains the county-funded shelter's name needs to be changed
because it doesn't apply. The word "shelter" is defined as save haven, refuge
or sanctuary. The only word that fits a place that year after year has a
despicable record of killing about 70% of all dogs and cats that enter the
building is pound, such as in impoundment facility. The words "adoption
center" are another illusion for a place with annual adoption rates of about
18%. The rest are reclaimed or arrive dead, according to the state Department
of Health.

So, it's up to the gatekeepers of hell, our permanent county government, to
keep Camden County the "Auschwitz for animals", as its often described in
correspondence we receive, or find a new contractor.
